How was week 8?4/19/2020 Week 8, was something else. I lost my file for the bird I made back in week 5 and Tyson lost most of his work from prior weeks. This happened because of the new updates I mentioned in week 7. So we're back to working with scratch, which I'm not too mad about. We had been working without communication for a while so we all kinda did our own thing which didn't fit with my ideas or theirs. So this was more like a blessing in disguise. I took much more action this week in telling the guys what I want and how we should get this done. We don't have much time left but if we can just push ourselves hard and focus on results, we can get this done like a week or two before this project ends. I'm gonna need to keep on my toes and make sure that what I'm doing, coincides with what Tysons doing. Malachi has been helping both of us out with how he wants this game to feel and look like which is something we all were struggling with at the beginning of this project. We thought we had an idea earlier but that wasn't the case. Last week was full of complaints pretty much but I feel like after typing all that out, that I can work on what I need to do and what I don't need to do. Just having the mindset of "if I don't get this done I'm screwed" can give people like me, tons of motivation to work hard on something. As far as schoolwork goes, we have all been struggling. Although Mr. Barker is very lenient on what assignments he gives us, my other teachers.... not so much. I understand how much stress this puts on everyone so I don't blame the teachers for giving us so much work but also, most of it just feels like busywork which is my problem. Anyways yeah this project should be going straight up after this post and I'm looking forward to posting all about it! that's all I've got so see y'all next week! - Andrew

How is week 7 looking?4/19/2020 Week 7 was.... well it was a week. I know this is late and to tell you the truth, I forgot to write one on Sunday. So what exactly did I do on week 7? Well in retrospect, not much. I planned on modeling some more and start working on textures but that never came to be since the only time I had to work on this project was spend updating Unreal engine and updating my 3ds max. I did, however, think of some ideas on how I want this game to actually control and what kind of game it should be. When I presented this project I said that I was going to make some sort of game and I've been trying not to set the bar super high so I don't feel disappointed when this game comes out to be worse then I thought. This doesn't mean that the game isn't looking good or anything. If anything, I'm confident that I will be able to make a good playable game and that ill be proud of it. With all this online school stuff its been hard to find time to genuinely get on my computer and not instantly get a headache and not feel like doing anything after an assignment. Even with this, I refuse to not work on this project and even if the blog posts are harder to keep coming out ill be working on this project much much harder. My teammates have also been doing the same thing so it's just as hard for them to work on it as it is for me. We're trying really hard to find the time where we all don't feel like garbage so we can work on it and that's usually the hardest part. Finding time for all of us to call and work can be insanely hard considering how we always end up getting distracted. That's about the most I have for this week, maybe next week will go better - Andrew
Anything going on with week 6?4/5/2020 Week 6, what happened? Well to be completely honest, not much. I spent more time with 3ds max and was trying to learn the animation tools that are on there. I haven't had too much time to work on 3ds max as much as I should. This is mostly because of this remote learning stuff. Although I do like being able to be comfy and work, I don't like having to constantly worry about if something is due. It makes being on my PC less enjoyable but I still manage. I've been playing Persona 5 Royal on my PS4 lately and I feel like I can draw some really good inspiration from the models and such from the game. I've been looking into movies and other games to get more ideas for how models of humans should look like and have also been looking at more than just models. This kind of stuff I've been looking at is like storytelling and animation. I might try to see if I can animate my models and then maybe I can make cutscenes in my game for this project. That's the main reason why I've been working with the animation tools in 3ds max. Although I don't have anything to show this week, It was definitely a good working week on my part. I don't think much work has been done on Tysons end or Malachs end. This is mostly because I haven't heard from them in a while with all this social distancing stuff. I really hope we can get back to school soon so I can actually talk to them face to face and make some more plans. This has really been messing me up when it comes to scheduling so it's been difficult to find time to get on a call with them and work or anything like that. I'll try much harder next week to take some time and communicate with them and maybe get some more models done. That's about all I have for this week, So SEEYA - Andrew
WHATS POPPINGGG on week 53/29/2020 So what exactly is popping on week 5? Well, I'm sure you've noticed by now but I practiced some modeling and the picture shown below is my final product. This is one of the few models that I actually saved and that doesn't look like a random shape that's colored differently. I actually made this as a suggestion from my girlfriend, I asked if she had something simple that she wanted me to model and well, this is what happened. This model isn't rendered and that's because I found a problem with the colors on the model when I tried to render this. As for the other guys, Tyson hasn't been able to work on his code or anything that much with some family stuff going on. Malachi's been writing more stories and just giving general tips on how he wants our characters to look and act like. This kind of storytelling is super important when it comes to how a character should look. If you made a character look super tough and violent like Doom guy for example, and then made them speak like he was a tiny child then it would completely ruin the character. So I've been tasked with thinking of ways the main characters should look like. I hope Tyson can do the same with how he controls in the actual game. This week has honestly been a good move forward towards finishing this game. Especially with all the trouble, the COVID-19 virus has been causing me with online classes and stuff. I gave up on blender this week too. This mostly had to do with the fact that I have way more experience with 3ds and I just think 3ds has more tools for what I am trying to do. I'm surprised that I was able to just find time to just sit here and mess around with 3ds max for a while this week. That's about all I got for this week and it was on time too so... GOOD JOB ME! -Andrew Blanco
The mess that is Week 43/22/2020 So last week's post was made last week but posted today. that mostly has to do with me being busy all week and forgetting to publish it. I talked about briefly but I did go on to say that online school had really pushed back our work and separated us from being able to find time to work together. So what happened this week? Well, this week I did practice with Blender and got kind of used to it but didn't make anything. Next week I am making it essential to myself that I have something to show off. With most of next week being our "spring break" I'm sure I can find time to really model something for this blog between all the work I have. As for Malachi and Tyson, they have been pretty much in the same boat. With all this COVID-19 talk it's been really hard to actually sit down and focus on this one thing. I talked to Tyson about how the code is coming and he said that "Its actually been pretty decent and maybe it'll be done sooner". See I was super happy to hear that as I've been really slacking with some parts of this project so far but then disaster struck. He lost his code and most of the stuff he was working on. He got a new hard drive and was moving everything and had to delete some files he thought were useless. one of those files was the Unreal one he was working on. Tyson has to start from scratch pretty much but luckily he said most of the time he spent "Coding" he was really just trying to get it to work. Now that he knows exactly what he's doing with the code it shouldn't take him too long. As for Malachi, he had been talking with me about the exact characters that he wants in this game and who our protagonist should be. We had been thinking about making the game have multiple protagonists and let the player switch between them but we feel that it might take longer to code than expected. That's about all I have for this week so let me know what exactly you think would be better. Till next week (and hopefully on time) -Andrew
Where is week 3?3/22/2020 I tell you guys what happened that week. That week nothing, much happened besides more talk about level design and how we actually wanted to go through with this. Although I had this planned out, as soon as we started working on it we noticed a few problems. The main one being that Unreal's asset creator isn't that good. We were trying to figure out how to use it but we eventually decided to just use the software we know better (For our assets at least). I said that we might use 3ds max as that's the software that I'm most familiar with but I can't get it on my personal computer without having to buy a license. We moved on and just left asset making for next week and let Tyson do the work on the code instead. I don't have any pictures for that week as all the stuff we worked on was purely verbal. With that Tyson went into the weekend with code to do and nothing else. I had been thinking about what software I can use and if it'll even work with Unreal. That's when i realized that blender was not only free but (supposedly) better than 3ds max. So I plan on learning this software and create some nice models for our upcoming game. hopefully, it'll be easy to use and feel similar to 3ds max. I hope by next week I might be able to actually show something but I doubt it. I know for a fact that at the very least these next two weeks ill have something to show or to do with the actual game. Until then ill have to just learn all the specifics of Blender. I had just been told by Tyson that he was not able to get too much of the coding done with all the COVID-19 stuff going around and that he had all his schoolwork to do. I don't blame him, I do too so maybe it'll stop us from working as hard.
Whats up on week 2?3/8/2020 So, week two already huh? Well this week went by super fast that's for sure. This week we didn't get to do much when it came to coding like I said we would do. All of us had been super busy this week and weekend so finding time to actually call and work on it became a super difficult thing to do. We did finally go over some level design and some of the mechanics we want the game to have. I gave the idea of making a horror game with the same mechanics but the other guys said that it would shift our focus too far from actual game play, which I agree with. So this week hasn't been too eventful but next week will for sure be full of stuff as we have to make up for the lack of productivity done this week. That is about all I have so ill see you all next week! - Andrew
What happened on week 1?3/1/2020 Well, I'll start this post off by saying that this project is about my steps towards making a video game in 12 weeks. think of this as some sort of "Game-jam" where theirs a time limit and we have to make anything we can that is playable. The only real difference is that we have way longer and only have 3 people, oh I should probably mention that we have never made a game before, that might be important. The other two guys who are helping me complete this game are "Malachi Woodward" and "Tyson Dulaney". We all have experience in different parts of the game making process but never put all of our efforts together. Throughout this week we came up with the story and name of our game, I don't want to spoil too much about the story but I will say that the name of our game is "Hollowind". That is about the most I will say for now as we are.. well making it but that's all I got for this week. I'll see you all next week with maybe something to show off. Till then, -Andrew
